Artist Statement

Richard Tomasello was born and raised in Buffalo, New York. He earned a BFA in Illustration from the University at Buffalo and a Masters Degree in Art Education from Buffalo State College. Richard Tomasello's current work consists primarily of charcoal and pastel drawings. Rough strokes along with harsh and simple lines define these works. Over the last several years Richard has created two concurrent series: The "Rhinoceros Series" and the "Club One Series". These works are fractured narratives about man's inherent propensity for violence, rage, and control. At their core, the work is about power; those who hold power, those who abuse power, and those who are powerless.
